Shield Foundation started working with their mission since 2009. The organization was then registered in 2010. Since the beginning, our organization started working on various community issues. The need assessment survey of community was done in 2010. Based on the findings, we have chosen to work for senior citizens at Dharavi. The ‘resource centre’ was initiated for them. Additionally, various need based services are available for the senior citizens there. In the early years, we had the capacity to cater to only 250 elderly, whereas, now we have developed our capacity to provide services for around 2500 elderly per year. One of our major and most consistent aim is to provide physical and mental health care for senior citizens. We have networked with more than 50 organizations and corporates to reach our mission. Shield Foundation never treats community people who are seeking help as beneficiaries, rather, a friendly bond is established between the staff and the senior citizens. Our holistic services, specially our medical services and counseling, helps senior citizens to remain mentally and physically healthy and it also helps indirectly their family members to remain healthy. The services are mainly for underprivileged elderly of Dharavi. We are also a member organization for FESCOM, Federation of senior citizens of Maharashtra. Thus connected with senior citizens from upper middle class and rich class strata. So, we provide our trained care givers for their care giving. This is a project with double impact. Our underprivileged women get jobs with high salary, which in turn empower them to sustain their respective families and lonely, fragile senior citizen get authentic and trained care givers. Thus reduces lot of stress from their families.
